Our family has been a fixture in the Lancaster County
hospitality industry since 1970.

Coming from a plain, Pennsylvania German background (my grandfather was horse and buggy Mennonite), has enabled us to have a unique rapport with our Amish and Mennonite neighbors. Speaking Pennsylvania German, my father, and award-winning photographer, has illustrated over 40 books on the Pennsylvania German lifestyle.

In 1972 our family opened the Folk Craft Center Museum, which is an interpretation of Lancaster County and the Pennsylvania German lifestyle using these books as a basis for many of the accompanying displays. As one thing usually leads to another, our family home (located just next door to the Folk Craft Center Museum) was renovated to accomodate four guest rooms as the Folk Craft Center Bed and Breakfast.

The home was built in 1851 as a residence and the small town’s Country Store and post office, so it obviously lended itself perfectly to accomodate our quilt business. I began the quilt business due to popular demand. Many of our guests always inquired as to the best places to purchase these Amish works of art. I then networked with our Amish friends and relatives and opened my Folk Craft Center Country Store in 1997, as a consignment business featuring only local handcrafts.

My mission was to provide the best in Amish made textiles and accessories at the most reasonable prices. My philosiphy was to price my artwork, being sure that most of the proceeds went to the Amish Women who spent uncounted hours quilting that particular piece. Not to stand on a soapbox, but I think it is just a shame that the tourist based shops are pricing their quilts to make as much, if not more, as the Amish family who has invested a huge amount of time to produce this labor of love!

So that is our family’s story ... we hope that you enjoy our Amish Quilts and Crafts. If there is anything we can do for you, feel free to call or email us.
